Johor youths looking forward to casting votes

JOHOR BARU: Young voters here are looking forward to casting their votes for the first time and hope that their voices will be heard by the government.

Universiti Teknologi Malaysia student Muhammad Hariz Abu Bakar, 21, said he would be following the current political developments in the state before deciding on the candidate to vote for.

“We have easy access to information through social media as well as news outlets.

“It’s important for us, the youths, to know about the candidates that we will be voting for, including their aspirations for the people as well as their current performance if they are already assemblymen.

“I really look forward to casting my vote with my peers for the first time,” he said in an interview.

Universiti Malaysia Perlis student Calvin Dcroix Manicam, 20, is looking forward to carry out his responsibility to vote in the state election.

“It’s important for us to have our voices heard, especially for youngsters who will be voting for the first time.

“I’m excited to cast my vote. We need leaders who are willing to go on the ground to serve the people and put the rakyat first,” he said.

College student Royce Yong, 22, is hoping that the election will lead to the appointment of more reliable and professional politicians.

“I hope that those who get elected will not forget their promises to the people,” he said, adding that he was also excited to vote.
