KOTA KINABALU: Sabah records its fifth education institute-related Covid-19 cluster this month, with a total of seven positive cases reported as of Saturday (Jan 22).
The new cluster - Kluster Jalan Bypass at Kologon in Ranau - was sparked by a female hostel student at SMK Kundasang, who first showed symptoms of having contracted the virus on Jan 17.
On Saturday, the minister in charge of pandemic matters in Sabah, Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, said the student had conducted a Covid-19 self-test and a PCR test, and tested positive for the virus in both.
“A total of 700 of her close contacts had undergone tests, out of which six others have tested positive for Covid-19,” he said.
All the patients are in category one and two and have been isolated and given appropriate treatment, he said.
Earlier, Masidi said Sabah recorded a total of 218 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (Jan 22).
“Out of this number, only three are categorised under category three,” he said.
The other four active Covid-19 education clusters in Sabah are the Jalan Kepayan Lama cluster in Tambunan with 38 cases, Puri Ranau in Ranau with 22 cases, Jalan Pertukangan in Sandakan (89 cases) and Pandan Pandan in Putatan involving 16 cases.
