Parents of dead M'sian woman unable to attend funeral in Singapore due to Covid-19 travel restrictions

PETALING JAYA: The parents of the 22-year-old Malaysian woman whose body was found floating in a river in Pasir Ris, Singapore nearly three days after she went missing could not make it to her funeral due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.

Khoo Yee Joo, who was from Kedah, went missing after she got off work in Chai Chee on Sunday (Jan 16) evening.

Oriental Daily reported that Khoo’s aunt had identified and claimed her body on Wednesday (Jan 19) and she will be cremated on Friday (Jan 21).

Khoo leaves behind a 59-year-old father and 50-year-old mother, an elder sister and a younger sister.

Her last rites in Singapore are to be overseen by her aunt before her ashes are brought back to Kedah.

Previously, Khoo was living with her aunt in Toa Payoh.

Khoo started working as an assistant Chinese teacher at a tuition centre in September.

According to her father, the owner of the tuition centre in Singapore took care of the funeral expenses in order to ease the burden on the family.

“The owner of the tuition centre contacted me and praised my daughter.

“She was a soft-spoken and cheerful girl,” he said.

Khoo’s mother said her late daughter would keep in contact with the family every day and talk to her elder sister about her work.

The police found her body in a river in Pasir Ris on Tuesday (Jan 18).
