Covid-19: New cluster identified among hostel students in Sabah, says Masidi

KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 cluster involving hostel students has been reported in Sabah on Sunday (Jan 16), says Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic).

The Minister in charge of Covid-19 matters in Sabah said the index case of the Jalan Kepayan Lama cluster was a male student living at the hostel.

He said a total of 34 hostel students who were close contacts of the student also tested positive for the virus.

“All the affected students have been isolated and given the necessary medical attention,” he added.

Masidi said health officials found that the area of virus transmission is confined to just the hostel students thus far.

Meanwhile, he said Sabah recorded a total of 213 new cases on Sunday, a reduction of 52 cases compared to Saturday’s 265 cases.

Kota Kinabalu and Tambunan each recorded 47 and 36 cases while Penampang and Tuaran both recorded 18 cases respectively.

Of the 213 cases, he said that 209 new patients were under Category 1 and 2 while the rest were placed under Category 3.
