Journalist dies of heart attack in car parked in front of Alor Setar mall

ALOR SETAR: A journalist died of a heart attack in his car in front of a shopping mall here.

Kota Setar OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Shukri Mat Akhir said the deceased, Ng Eng Boon, 44, a journalist with Chinese-language newspaper Sin Chew Daily, was found in his car with the engine still running early Tuesday (Jan 4).

“We received a call from the Malaysian Emergency Response System (MERS-999) at about 4am informing us about the incident,” he said in a statement.

ACP Ahmad Shukri said initial investigations found no criminal element at the scene.

He said the body of the victim had been sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital and a Covid-19 screening would be carried out before conducting a post-mortem on his remains.

ACP Ahmad Shukri later said that the Covid-19 test was negative and autopsy results showed that he had died of a heart attack.

The wake will be held at the Kedah Hokkien Association Cremation Centre at Jalan Langgar until Jan 7 before the funeral.

Ng is not married and was a journalist for 20 years.
