Cop hurt after being struck by support poles of collapsing roadblock tent

KOTA TINGGI: A policeman was injured after being struck by the metal support poles of a roadblock tent when the structure collapsed.

Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Hussin Zamora said that in the 10.30pm incident on Tuesday (Dec 21), the storage compartment door of an express bus accidentally opened and hit the roadblock tent set up at KM52.0 of Jalan Johor Baru-Mersing near here.

“As a result, the tent fell over and the metal support poles hit the policeman who was on duty at the roadblock," Supt Hussin said in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 22).

He said the express bus, with 26 passengers on board, was travelling from Larkin, Johor Baru to Kuala Terengganu.

Supt Hussin said the driver of the express bus did not have a criminal record and tested negative for drugs.

He said the driver was detained to help investigations under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving.

Supt Hussin said the victim was admitted to the Kota Tinggi Hospital for treatment.
