Selangor floods: Residents in Kajang, Salak Tinggi told to prepare to evacuate


PETALING JAYA: Residents in low-lying areas in Kajang and Salak Tinggi in Selangor have been advised to be ready for evacuation due to rising flood waters on Saturday (Dec 18).

Fire and Rescue Department assistant director-general (operations) Datuk Nor Hisham Mohammad said that at press time, evacuation operations were underway.

“Many places in Selangor have been getting heavy rain since 4pm on Friday (Dec 17),” he said, urging the public to get all their documents ready before evacuating.

He added that their air wing unit had been put on alert.

Nor Hisham added that two foreigners drowned while swimming at a beach in Teluk Kemang in Port Dickson at about 1pm on Saturday.

On Friday, two others drowned, including a 13-year-old in Terengganu and a man in his 30s in Pahang.

Those in need of help or evacuation are urged to contact the department via its hotline at 994.
