KUCHING: As campaigning for the state polls comes to a close, Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) has appealed to voters to make the best choice not just for themselves, but also for the community and “for our beloved Sarawak”.
GPS chairman Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg assured the people that if given the full mandate, the coalition would continue with efforts to ensure public security, political stability and economic prosperity for the state.
“My GPS team will continue with the socio-economic development agenda to create new sources of wealth and generate more business and job opportunities for our youth and future generations.
“We will ensure Sarawak continues to prosper so that the people can enjoy the benefits of our well-planned, holistic and inclusive economic growth and development,” he said on Friday (Dec 17).
Abang Johari, who is leading GPS in the state election for the first time since taking office in 2017, said the coalition would strive to protect and defend the rights of the people and the interests of Sarawak.
This will be as enshrined in the Malaysia Agreement 1963, the Report of the Inter-Governmental Committee, the Sarawak state constitution and the Federal Constitution, he explained.
“We will preserve the unity and harmony that we cherish so much in Sarawak, where our multi-racial and multi-religious community are able to live together in peace and work for our future generations,” he said.
Reminding voters not to risk their future, Abang Johari said the failure of the Pakatan Harapan government due to weaknesses and instability should be a lesson learned.
“Our future depends on a strong, stable and committed government to defend the rights of the people and the interests of Sarawak.
“Give GPS a chance to fight for you to create a better Sarawak for all of us,” said Abang Johari.
Polling is on Saturday (Dec 18), with 349 candidates vying for 82 seats.
