Stern action will be taken over viral bullying incident, says Mara chairman

IPOH: Stern action will be taken against the students that were involved in a bullying incident at a boarding school in Kuala Kangsar, says Datuk Seri Azizah Mohd Dun (pic).

The Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) chairman said they would conduct a thorough investigation after video clips of the bullying went viral on social media.

“I was shocked to watch the footage as bullying is not a healthy culture and we definitely do not want it to happen again.

“We will check if the video clips are real and will then take action against the students involved,” she was reported as saying by Sinar Harian after launching the first Canggih Go outlet at Ampang Baru here Friday (Dec 10).

"It (the incident) should not have happened as these students are still underaged and must be protected," she added.

Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin said he had also seen the viral video post regarding a student being beaten in a hostel.

"Based on preliminary investigations, we found that the incident did not involve institutions under the Education Ministry", he said in a Facebook post Friday (Dec 10).

However, he said that the Education Ministry has contacted the parties involved and informed them that follow-up action has been taken.

"The Ministry is committed to providing a safe school environment that is in line with the concept of #sekolahkuSEJAHTERA," he said in his post.

In a series of tweets uploaded by a twitter user using the handle @Ekax_, at least eight male students were seen taking turns to punch a boy.

@Ekax_ also included the photographs of the alleged bullies.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mior Faridalathrash Wahid had also earlier today said the police would investigate the incident.
