Johor Ruler expresses disappointment over Sg Danga pollution

JOHOR BARU: Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has expressed disappointment over the level of pollution along the banks of Sungai Danga here.

His Majesty steered an air boat along the river for about an hour, to find out the situation at Sungai Danga.

In a statement posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page on Tuesday (Nov 30), His Majesty decreed that state health and environment committee chairman R. Vidyananthan take note of the matter, including actions to curb rubbish being thrown into rivers.

“The state committee chairman should not just focus on health matters alone as the environment is also important for the people’s lives.

“Work should be carried out continuously and this includes the aspect of enforcement and monitoring. Do not wait until being reprimanded to get the work done,” His Majesty added.

Sultan Ibrahim also decreed for Vidyananthan to immediately prepare a report on the source of rubbish pollution happening in rivers here.

“Many allocations have been channelled to agencies and departments responsible to take care of rivers and the environment but it has not been effective,” His Majesty said.
