Duo injured while paragliding at Mt Kinabalu

Rescuers and the two victims on their way down Mount Kinabalu.

KOTA KINABALU: Two local men were hurt after a fall while paragliding at Mount Kinabalu early Tuesday (Nov 30).

They had scaled Mount Kinabalu prior to their paragliding activity, but had fallen midway and landed knee-first at the Summit Trail some 7.5km from the starting point at around 7am.

State Fire and Rescue officials received a distress call about the matter at around 7.30am.

“A group of rescuers comprising firemen and mountain guides were sent to the scene and they reached the accident location at about 9.30am,” said an official from the Fire Department operations room.

The first victim could still walk but the second man could not.

Preliminary treatment was given to both victims before they were brought down from the mountain.

The first victim was able to climb down with the assistance of his rescuers while the second man was put on a stretcher.
