KOTA KINABALU: A businesswoman has pleaded not guilty to outraging the modesty of a policeman at a roadblock here in June.

Nur Jawaheer Ismail, 34, who is also known as "Wawa", claimed trial to the charge before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie on Thursday (Nov 18).

According to the facts of the case, she stands accused of insulting Kpl Maslin Samih by saying, among other things, "Nasib kau ni lelaki, kalau kau perempuan sudah lama aku kasi telanjang kau, aku rungkup kau (It is fortunate that you are a man, if you were a woman, I would have stripped you naked and pounced on you)."

Nur Jawaheer's words were reportedly heard by one Inspector Hamzah Ismail following the alleged incident at around 5.30pm on June 1 at a roadblock in Jalan Kepayan near here while Wawa was on her way to donate water to flood victims.

A video clip of the incident subsequently went viral on social media.

The accused was released on RM2,000 bail with two sureties pending mention on Dec 9.

If convicted, she could be jailed up to five years or fined, or both, for the offence under Section 509 of the Penal Code.

Deputy public prosecutors DK Afiqah Alya and Adibah Saiful prosecuted while Nur Jawaheer was represented by counsel Luke Ressa Balang.
