Over 1.3 million vehicles on PLUS highways on Friday (Oct 15)

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 1.3 million vehicles are estimated to be on PLUS highways on Friday (Oct 15), following the lifting of the interstate travel ban.

PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) head of strategic stakeholder engagement Syed Mohammed Idid Syed Ahmad said traffic remained smooth as people were travelling during the long weekend.

"Our teams are ready to cater to the increase of vehicles on the road.

"Prior to the pandemic, we used to cater to some 1.7 million vehicles on the road daily, thus we will be able to do so with the lifting of the interstate travel ban," he said when contacted on Friday.

Syed Mohammed Idid advised road users to use the PLUS application or check PLUS' Twitter account to get the latest updates on traffic conditions.

"In doing so, they can plan their journey better," he added.

PLUS rest and services areas (R&R) are also open and ready to meet the demands of travellers, he said.

"Mobile police teams are deployed at selected R&R, especially those which are the focus of highway users.

"The move was taken to monitor compliance of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP)," he said.

He advised the public to continue to adhere to the SOP such as checking in on the MySejahtera app, wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing and using hand sanitisers regularly.

"In this new normal situation, all things need more time, so all visitors need to be more patient and not be selfish," he added.

He also reminded the travellers to ensure that their Touch N Go cards and e-wallets have sufficient balance before starting their journeys.
