Top three National Day videos as voted by Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR: In celebration of National Day and Malaysia Day this year, Star Media Group invited Malaysians to pick the most engaging National Day videos that captured their hearts.

During the two weeks of voting (Aug 31-Sept 16), 33 inspirational videos from many participating companies and corporations were featured on https://sites.thestar.com.my/nationaldayvideos2021/.

With over 9,500 votes garnered throughout the two-week campaign, the results are now in.

Malaysians' pick of the top three favourites in no particular order, are by Shopee, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Petronas.

Shopee Malaysia teamed up with rapper Kayda Aziz to produce the Cerita Orang Kita animated music video, featuring an animated version of six members of the local seller community on Shopee in an outer space theme to metaphorically illustrate how they aimed for and landed on the moon with their businesses.

The sellers are PotonGuler (Amirah Norman), Pasar Kedah (Zeeda Aziz), Babymart (Jamie Thoo), Viraller (Juhairi Aziz), Intan Kek Lapis Sarawak (Farah Suhaimi) and Kedai Buku Bibliophile (Kiridaren Jayakumar) – each telling their inspiring stories.

With lyrics written by Kayda herself, she raps about the efforts and ecommerce journeys of these sellers, while reminding everyone to not give up and believe in themselves.

Directed by Shaiful Yahya, the empowering video is a timely reminder of the ‘Malaysia Boleh’ spirit: If we can dream it, we can do it.

Demi Cinta by Petronas resembles a love song dedicated to all Malaysians that serves as a reminder that no matter what happens, we will get through it.

Written by composer Mohariz Yaakup and singer Vanessa Reynauld, the heartfelt animated video features four Malaysians going through individual hardship and their collective hope during these trying times.

The love from their children, family and country lifts their spirits and gives them strength to weather these dark times.

TNB won the hearts of the nation once again, this time with Raikan Malaysia Kita, an uplifting animated video which shines light on inspiring stories from Malaysians in the face of adversity.

It tells the stories of four Malaysians – Ridzuan Jamal, Ong Yong Xun, Paramesvary Munumsamy and Nazirah Abd Rahman – and how they not only overcome the challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic but also help others along the way. These are truly inspiring stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things to help others.
