Boy passed out after vaccination due to lack of sleep, not having proper breakfast, says Melaka Health Dept

MELAKA: Lack of sleep and consuming only a tablespoon of nasi lemak is found to the cause of a 12-year-old boy to suddenly pass out after getting vaccinated on Thursday morning (Sept 30), says the state Health Department.

Its deputy director Dr Rusdi Abd Rahmad said the male pupil of a primary school here had not eaten a proper breakfast before he turned up at the walk-in vaccination centre (PPV) in Klebang here with his parents.

"Based on the medical assessment, it was known that the pupil only slept at 2am and came to the PPV in the morning without having his full breakfast," he said in a statement.

Earlier, a 36-second video was circulated on social media alleging that the pupil had fainted after receiving his vaccine dose.

Dr Rusdi said a 30-minute observation was made on the pupil shortly after the incident.

He said the pupil felt delirious at the car park of the PPV after getting his jab.

Dr Rusdi said the unconscious pupil was then rushed back to the PPV by his family members for medical attention.

He said the pupil was allowed to return home after the medical examination was done on him.

Dr Rusdi said the medical officers also followed-up on his condition while the boy was at home.

"The pupil's condition has returned to normal and he has no previous medical records," he said.

Dr Rusdi said the department hopes that people wouldn't spread unauthenticated information on the incident.
