King thanks athletes, frontliners for their contributions to the country

KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has thanked the national athletes who participated in the Tokyo Olympic Games, Paralympic Games as well as the Covid-19 frontliners for their contributions to the country.

To show appreciation for their contributions, the King asked all MPs in the Dewan Rakyat to stand up to give a round of huge applause to the groups.

"On this occasion, I would like to record my appreciation and congratulate all our athletes for their success in the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympic Games, and who had struggled to bring a good name to our country based on the prayers and support from all Malaysians," he said during his Royal Address at the opening of the Fourth Session of the 14th Parliament today.

The Agong also thanked the civil servants, especially the Armed Forces, police as well as other government agencies, that continued to provide their services to ensure Malaysia remains a safe, respected and prosperous country.

"While the country is facing the Covid-19 pandemic, the frontliners, especially those in the health care services, continue to work hard and dedicatedly," said His Majesty.

"Let us continue to support and express our highest gratitude to all the frontliners and those in the critical sectors for their services," added the King.

This parliamentary session is the first under the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

Based on the calendar of the Dewan Rakyat meeting, this session will be for 17 days until Oct 12.
