Covid-19: Malaysia's death toll reaches 20,711 with 292 total fatalities reported Sunday (Sept 12)

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia’s Covid-19 death toll has reached 20,711 after the Health Ministry reported 292 more coronavirus deaths on Sunday (Sept 12).

The 292 deaths included backlogged cases that were previously unreported.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, the average number of deaths in the past one week based on the actual date of death is 99.

The government has changed its method of reporting Covid-19 deaths to better reflect the current pandemic situation in the country.

The CovidNow website will show the number of newly reported deaths, including the backlog, as well as a separate figure which shows the actual deaths.

Based on the latest graph, the statistics of Covid-19 deaths shows a downward trend.

Of the 292 reported deaths on Sunday, there were 106 fatalities classified as “brought-in-dead” (BID) cases.

This brings the total of BID cases in the country up to 3,782.

On Sunday, Malaysia reported 19,913 new Covid-19 cases and 20,980 recoveries.

The number of active Covid-19 cases is 237,277, a reduction of 2,074 from the previous day.

Of the total active cases, 197,233 or 83.1% are patients with mild infections and are undergoing home quarantine.

Another 25,627 (10.8%) are those under isolation at low-risk quarantine centres (PKRC).

Some 13,079 (5.5%) are hospitalised, while another 1,338 are at intensive care units (ICU).

The national ICU utilisation rate is currently at 83.9%.

Three states have ICUs operating at over-capacity - Kedah (125.2%), Kelantan (101.8%) and Penang (101.8%).

The Klang Valley’s ICU usage rate is at 82.5%.
