Family evacuated after landslide in Putatan

KOTA KINABALU: A family was forced to evacuate their house in Kg Buit Hill, Putatan near here after a landslide.

The incident saw parts of the living room, kitchen and a room damaged after mud and debris gushed into the house.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department officials said no one was injured in the incident that occurred around 3pm on Saturday (Sept 4).

It is learnt that the residents of the house had heard a loud noise prior to the landslide and had run out to safety.

They were asked to take shelter elsewhere until the land had been cleared and their house repaired.

In another incident, firemen helped a family of five leave their flooded house at Kampung Lontik, Tuaran not far from the city after receiving a distress call at 3.21pm.

The victims, comprising a woman and four men, one of whom was a stroke patient, were taken to safety around 3.40pm.

The victims were surrendered to the police for further assistance following the rescue.

In most operations relating to floods and landslides, firemen worked together with other security agencies including the police and Civil Defence Force.
