Police lance corporal pleads not guilty to two corruption charges


The accused being taken to the Seremban Sessions Court to be charged.

SEREMBAN: A 34-year-old police lance corporal pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court here on Thursday (Aug 26) to two corruption charges totalling RM2,000.

L/Kpl Kamarulzaman Mohd Sanusi, who is now working at the state police contingent here, claimed trial to the charges before Judge Madihah Harullah.

For the first charge, he was accused of accepting RM1,000 from Mohd Faizal Abdul Hamid to help "settle" a case involving one Mohd Rafik Abdul Hamid while working at the Sepang district police station in Selangor.

The offence was allegedly committed at 10pm at a house in Taman College Heights near here on Jan 16, 2019.

For the second charge, the accused allegedly agreed to accept another RM1,000 from the same individual at around 10pm outside a shop in Senawang two days later.

L/Kpl Kamarulzaman was charged under Sections 16(a)(B) and 17 (a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, punishable under section 24(1) of the same legislation.

Offenders can be jailed up to 20 years or fined five times the amount of the bribe involved upon conviction.

The court allowed the accused, who was unrepresented, to be released on RM7,000 bail with one surety and ordered him to report at the state MACC office on the first week of every month.

Judge Madihah also fixed Sept 29 for case management.
