Covid-19 Watch: 19,740 new cases, Selangor still top with 5,706


PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 19,740 new Covid-19 cases on Monday (Aug 16), bringing the cumulative total to 1,424,639.

In the 24-hour span up to 12pm Monday, Malaysia also reported 274 more Covid-19 deaths.

The country’s Covid-19 death toll is now at 12,784.

There were also 17,450 patients discharged from treatment in the same period.

A total of 1,162,578 people in Malaysia (81.6% of all cases) have recovered from Covid-19.

Currently, there are 249,277 active cases under treatment and monitoring nationwide.

Of that, 1,047 are under intensive care - with 520 people requiring ventilator support.

Selangor recorded the highest number of cases at 5,706, followed by Sabah (1,728) and Kedah (1,592).
