Covid-19: Cases climb above 17,000 again, Selangor highest with 5,836


PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has another 17,105 new cases of Covid-19, the Health Ministry reports on Tuesday (August 3).

Cumulatively, the country has 1,163,291 Covid-19 cases to date.

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of cases with 5,836 new infections.

Four other states have more than 1,000 cases - Kuala Lumpur with 2,309, Johor with 1,275 Kedah with 1,036 and Sabah with 1,010.

Cases in other states are as follows:Perak (967), Kelantan (915), Negri Sembilan (816), Penang (798), Pahang (628), Melaka (508), Sarawak (494), Terengganu (429), Putrajaya (72), Perlis (seven) and Labuan (five).

Total active cases have reached 203,664, surpassing the 200k mark for the first time.

Of that total, 1,066 are in intensive care units (ICU), with 537 on ventilator support.

There were 12,297 patients discharged, bringing the number of Covid-19 recoveries to 950,029 (81.67% of all cases).

Malaysia also recorded 195 new Covid-19 fatalities, taking the death toll to 9,598.
