NGOs lodge police report over #Lawan protest

KUALA LUMPUR: Several NGOs have lodged a police report over Saturday's (July 31) Keluar dan #Lawan protest.

Representatives from the NGOs – Persatuan Anak Melayu Johor, Gabungan NGO 1 Malaysia, Pertubuhan Sosial dan Minda Prihatin, Dewan Perundingan NGO and Pertubuhan Salam Budi – lodged the report at about 10.30am on Monday (Aug 2) at Dang Wangi police headquarters here.

Persatuan Anak Melayu Johor president Najmuddin Mahmood said action should be taken against the protest's organisers.

"The protest is an irresponsible act that does not take into account the seriousness of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Stern action should be taken against the organisers to ensure such illegal protest does not occur in the future," he said.

Gabungan NGO 1 Malaysia president Nazlee Aziz Yeop said the protest should not have been held as it breached Covid-19 standard operating procedures.

"Their method was wrong as it might endanger others given the (prevalence) of Covid-19.

"Anyone can voice their opinion but it must done in a proper manner," he added.
