PETALING JAYA: It was the best game from our men’s doubles team.
Such were the words from Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong moments after Malaysia's world No. 9 Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik secured a place in the men's doubles semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics.
“Congratulations Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik!
“These Malaysian heroes managed to defeat the No. 1 men’s double pair from Indonesia.
“It was the best game from our men’s doubles team. Keep fighting!” he said on his Facebook page on Thursday (July 29).
Earlier, the badminton duo pulled off an incredible show to stun their nemeses Kevin Sanjaya-Marcus Fenaldi of Indonesia for the first time in their eighth attempt with a convincing 21-14, 21-17, qualifying them in the men's doubles semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics.
The good news soon became a frenzy on social media.
They are now just two steps away from winning the country's elusive Olympics gold.
