PETALING JAYA: There has been a Covid-19 outbreak in the men’s psychiatric ward at Hospital Kuala Lumpur after 10 patients tested positive for the virus, says Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
The Health Minister said that the outbreak has led to the ward being “frozen”, which means that existing patients will remain in the area though no new patients will be brought there.
“Usually we would just ‘freeze’ the affected ward or compartment to curb the outbreak,” he was reported as saying to Sin Chew Daily on Tuesday (July 6).
He, however, said that this does not mean that Hospital Kuala Lumpur will close down all its wards, clarifying that the hospital will continue operating as usual.
New patients, he added, will be admitted to unaffected wards instead.
He added that “freezing” the ward is meant to monitor patients who had close contact with the infected patients, and that the extent of the outbreak will be known after two days of freezing the ward.
