GEORGE TOWN: A total of RM1.49mil worth of compound notices have been issued for workplace violations on standard operating procedures (SOP) since June 16, says Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Awang Hashim.

He said the compounds were issued under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) following 1,585 operations conducted nationwide.

"A total of 159 compound notices were issued following the operations. Among them, 150 were issued to employers and nine to employees.

"The manufacturing sector recorded the largest contributor with 123 cases followed by construction (18), business services (4), bulk supplying (3), and transportation (3) sectors.

"Most of the violations came from failure of employers to limit working capacity and ensuring sufficient physical distancing," he said during a press conference in Bayan Lepas on Tuesday (July 6).

Awang said the states with highest number of compound notices issued are Selangor with 42 cases, Kedah (19), Perak (17), Kuala Lumpur (14) and Negri Sembilan (12).
