KUALA LUMPUR: Police have opened an investigation paper over the abuse of a teenager with Down Syndrome at a condominium in Wangsa Maju.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm Saiful Annuar Yusoff, in a statement on Tuesday (July 6), said that police received a report on the incident on June 24.

"The victim had burn marks on her chest, hand, neck and thighs, as well as other injuries. Medical examinations conducted at Kuala Lumpur Hospital showed that she suffered an infected burn wound over bilateral forearm and multiple old scars all over body, and that she also tested positive for Covid-19.

"Further investigations showed that six more children stayed at the condominium unit, with two children aged two years old also with Down Syndrome. No signs of injuries were found on the other children, " he said.

A 28-year-old woman who is a caretaker is currently being investigated by the police.

He added that since all witnesses tested positive for Covid-19, the police will continue their investigations once they have completed their quarantine period.
