Perak state assembly to sit for four days from Aug 25

IPOH: The Perak state assembly will sit on Aug 25.

Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad said the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has consented for the sitting to be held.

Saarani added that the sitting will be held for four days and will involve all state assemblymen.

"A meeting will be held to determine the seating arrangement, number of attendees and standard operating procedures," he told an online press conference on Wednesday (june 30).

Saarani hoped the sitting will be for the common benefit of all by allowing the assemblymen to share opinions and ideas on breaking the chain of Covid-19 infection.

He added that he, together with the state secretary and state legal adviser, had sought an audience with Sultan Nazrin on the matter on Tuesday (June 29).

Asked if the media could be physically present to cover the sitting, Saarani said he would seek advice from the National Security Council.

"There is no problem to cover it virtually," he said.

Separately, Saarani said his office and the Perak Islamic Affairs Department will work together to create materials, including videos, for online Kafa (religious) classes.

He said it was an extension of the Tuisyen Cikgu Saarani programme to enable religious school students to do online learning.

On another matter, Saarani said he did not agree with the "white flag" movement for individuals or families to signal to their community that they are in need of help during the pandemic.

"As I was taught as a child, a white flag means to surrender. We cannot admit defeat.

"If there are issues, lack of food, we have neighbours (to turn to) and mobile phones to call our children," he said.

"As of now, we have penghulu, state assemblymen and MPs, all on the ground to render help as best as we can.

"We need to be ready to face any challenges," he added.
