Dr Wee: All public transport services can operate during current MCO

PETALING JAYA: All public transport can operate during the current movement control order, but restrictions are in place for taxis and e-hailing vehicles, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“Each taxi and e-hailing vehicle is restricted to two persons (one driver and one passenger), including larger vehicles such as 4WDs and vans," said the Transport Minister.

He also said that one driver and two passengers are permitted for medical reasons with a doctor's letter, for vaccination trips, or security reasons.

"However, in the event of a medical need such as a hospital visit with a doctor’s letter or for vaccination as validated with MySejahtera or for security reasons, up to three persons including the driver are allowed at one time," he added.

He also said in a statement on Saturday (June 12) that all public transportation services must operate in compliance with the National Security Council’s (MKN) standard operating procedures (SOPs).

"Please refer to the latest SOPs by the National Security Council (NSC), ” said Dr Wee.

He added that taxi drivers must obtain their approval letters from the Ministry’s Logistics Industry Information System (SMILE) at https://application.mot.gov.my and also said that e-hailing drivers may use the approval letters as issued by the Transport Ministry to their respective e-Hailing operators (EHO).

Dr Wee also said that all public transport users must obtain the necessary inter-state and inter-district travel permissions from the police as required by the NSC SOPs.

He added that all approval letters obtained from the SMILE System dated before 1 June 2021 can be downloaded from the system and website without needing to re- register.

“As always, the Ministry strongly urges all Malaysians using public transport and in the workplace to practice self-compliance with regards to the SOPs at all stations and terminals," said Dr Wee.

He added that this includes using hand sanitizers, wearing face masks, maintaining physical distancing wherever required, and checking in with MySejahtera QR codes where required.
