Malaysian film ‘Geran’ airs in the US

Malaysian movie Geran made history when it aired in the United States, reported Berita Harian.

The martial arts action movie was produced by Layar Pictures and Tree of Hopes Productions.

Director Areel Abu Bakar said the opportunity came after the film was named the recipient of the Daniel A. Craft Award at the 19th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) for excellence in action cinema last year.“This is a wonderful opportunity. We got this offer in November last year after the NYAFF took place.

“Hopefully, this will be a good start for us to continue introducing our artistic heritage to the international stage, ” he said.

Areel, whose real name is Mohd Shahreel Abu Bakar, said he was grateful for the opportunity.

The film starred Namron, Khoharullah Majid, Feiyna Tajudin, Fad Anuar, Megat Shahrizal and stuntman Azlan Komeng.

The nurse Siti Aishah Mohd Zamri, 26, who was seven months pregnant with her first baby, died in Hospital Labuan on Wednesday, after being admitted on May 26.

When interviewed by the daily, her brother Mohd Nur Amin Mohd Zamri said he last contacted his sister on May 30 and the family was shocked by her death.

He added that the family has accepted her death and is proud of her sacrifices.
