King and Queen convey condolences to family of late Perak mufti


KUALA LUMPUR: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah have expressed their condolences to the family of Perak Mufti Tan Sri Dr Harussani Zakaria (pic), who died yesterday.

In a statement issued via Istana Negara’s official Facebook page, Their Majesties also expressed their sadness over the passing and hoped his family would be patient and resilient in this difficult situation.

“Their Majesties highly praised and greatly appreciate Harussani’s services and sacrifices to the community and his contributions towards the development of the ummah and Islam.

“Their Majesties also pray for his soul to be blessed by Allah and be placed among the righteous, ” read the statement, which ended with the hashtags #muftiperak #malaysia.

The Perak State Mufti Department, in a Facebook post, informed that Harussani had passed away at about 3pm yesterday at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) in Ipoh.

It was previously reported that Harussani, 82, and his wife Puan Sri Ainon Abdul Ghani were warded at HRPB before the Aidilfitri celebration due to Covid-19.

Ainon recovered from the infection and was discharged from the hospital on May 21.

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his family also expressed their sadness over Harussani’s passing.

Muhyiddin in a post on Facebook described Harussani’s death as a huge loss to the Islamic dakwah movement in the country.

“Apart from being the mufti of Perak, Allahyarham (Harussani) was known as a preacher and religious person who was approachable and respected by all levels of society.

“Allahyarham’s great services and contribution in fighting for and expanding the Islamic faith have been invaluable, ” said the Prime Minister in the statement.

He also expressed his condolences to Harussani’s family members, and hoped that they would persevere during this trying time.

“Let us all pray that the soul of Allahyarham, who devoted his entire life to upholding Islam, is placed among the righteous and pious, ” he said.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong also offered his condolences to the family of the late Perak mufti.

The Transport Minister said the country had lost a leader who made great contributions to society.
