No vaccine choice for now as it may slow down immunisation programme, says KJ

PETALING JAYA: The government has decided not to give Malaysians the option to choose their vaccines for now as its main concern is to speed up the vaccination process, says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister said they had initially thought of allowing Malaysians the option to choose their vaccine.

"Right now, we are focusing on accelerating the vaccination process. If we give them a choice, it will slow things down.

"Now the concern is to increase and ramp up the numbers and give whatever we have," he said during a press conference on Sunday (May 30).

On Thursday (May 27), Khairy had said they were looking at allowing the public to choose the vaccines they would receive, and that the MySejahtera application would be updated to allow this.

This was after AstraZeneca vaccines received an overwhelming response during the second phase of the opt-in programme.

Khairy said that the AstraZeneca vaccine would no longer be an "opt-in" programme, but included in the national immunisation programme.
