Covid-19: Perak has highest infectivity rate

PETALING JAYA: Perak has the highest Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0, pronounced R-nought) in the country, which is currently at 1.32, while the country's average is 1.14.

Terengganu has an R0 of 1.29, Kedah 1.22, Penang 1.21, Melaka 1.18, while Selangor and Johor's R0 is 1.17.Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah shared the figures in a tweet early Friday (May 14).

Dr Noor Hisham has previously said that the R0 has to be reduced to 0.5 to break the chain of infection in the country.

The graphic indicated that the number of cases might reach 9000 cases by June if the R0 was 1.2 and there was no compliance to the standard operating procedures

As of Thursday (May 13), the country recorded 458,077 Covid-19 cases since the start of the pandemic last year, with the death toll at 1,788.
