Less than half of Indian community have completed Census 2020

LESS than 50% of the Indian community in the country have completed the national census, Makkal Osai reported.

Despite campaigns by the government and efforts by various Indian organisations and political parties, only 49% or 990,000 Malaysian-Indians had completed the Population and Housing Census 2020.

Department of Statistics Malaysia Selangor branch assistant director Dipa Chellamuthu said that there were about 700,000 Malaysian-Indians living in Selangor but only 300,000 had done the survey.

> Persatuan Pemuzik Urumee Melam Malaysia has advised artistes to don proper traditional attire while performing and avoid vices such as smoking and drinking, Makkal Osai reported.

The association said members and other urumi players who perform at religious festivals or events are representing the art form and the culture.

Wearing Indian traditional attire or their troupe’s uniform will present them in a positive and professional manner, said the association, which is into its ninth year.
