Two injured in ship fire off Weld Quay

GEORGE TOWN: Two people suffered second-degree burns after a ship loaded with diesel caught fire at the Harbour Trade Centre in Weld Quay here.

Fire and Rescue Department operations officer Muzamer Mohd Salleh said they received a distress call on the incident at 4.02pm on Monday (May 3).

"Bomba dispatched teams from Jalan Perak, Bagan Jermal and Bayan Baru to aid in the rescue efforts.

"We managed to rescue both victims involved in the ship fire and they suffered second-degree burns.

"The fire was brought under control at 4.44pm but firemen are still trying to extinguish the blaze, ” he said.
