Bodyguards’ boss charged

KLANG: A businessman and his aide have been slapped with multiple charges over the alleged assault on two bodyguards for fasting.

Chung Chee Yang and his personal assistant Choo Hin Voon, both 43, face five and two charges, respectively.

The charges were read out at the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday. They claimed trial to all charges.

They are accused of committing the offences between 10.30pm and 11.30pm on April 13 outside a house in Bandar Bukit Tinggi here.

Father of four Chung is first accused under Section 298 of the Penal Code for intentionally wounding the religious feelings of a person.

According to the charge sheet, he had uttered words that were offensive to the religious beliefs of his bodyguards Mohd Azminizam Zulkepli, 44, and Ahmad Shamsuri Zailani, 27.

Chung faces a second charge, punishable under Section 323 of the same Code, for causing injury to Mohd Azminizam.

If found guilty of the first charge, Chung can be jailed for up to a year, fined or both. The second charge carries a jail term of up to one year, a maximum RM2,000 fine or both, upon conviction.

He was also charged under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 109 twice for abetting Choo in causing injury to Mohd Azminizam and Ahmad Shamsuri.

Under Section 506, Chung threatened to cause injury to Mohd Azminizam with a gun.

If found guilty, he is liable to a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine or both.

For the two charges under Section 109, Chung allegedly abetted Choo and instructed him to cause injury to Mohd Azminizam and Ahmad Shamsuri with a cane.

He faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine or rotan or either two of the penalties under Section 324 of the Penal Code if found guilty of these two charges.

Meanwhile, Choo was first charged under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury to Mohd Azminizam with a cane.

He faces a second charge for allegedly using a cane to hurt Ahmad Shamsuri.

Choo, who has two children, faces up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine or rotan or either two of the penalties for each of the charges if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutors Ashyraf Ashy’ari Kamaruzaman and Mohd Fakhrurrazi Ahmad offered bail at RM200,000 for Chung and RM100,000 for Choo, with the additional condition that they surrender their passport to the court and report to the nearest police station once a month.

Magistrate P. Sarulatha set bail at RM50,000 for Chung and RM20,000 for Choo and fixed June 23 for mention.

Lawyer Abdul Hakeem Aiman appeared for Chung while Loi Yap Loong represented Choo.
