KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested five more suspects as investigations into two Hari Raya-themed gambling video advertisements continues.
“The five include the main suspect that we believe had been instructed by the online gambling syndicate to publish the videos.
“In total, 18 people have been arrested so far, ” Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said in a statement Monday (April 19).
He added that the five newly arrested suspects included the song composer, singer and film director.
“They will be remanded today, ” he said.
Two online gambling ads have surfaced online recently.
However, it led to complaints and scorn from Malaysians due to the ads’ Hari Raya theme.
Prior to this, Bukit Aman had said that it was investigating the first Hari Raya-themed online gaming video which went viral on Thursday (April 15), after 38 police reports were lodged.
Investigations into the video, which was shot in Ampang and Hulu Langat on March 13, were made under Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 4(1)(g) of the Open Gaming Houses Act as well as Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
