PETALING JAYA: Deputy Works Minister Datuk Eddin Syazlee Shith has apologised for falling asleep during the graduation ceremony of SM Agama Sains Kuala Pilah, Negri Sembilan.

His special officer Farahiah Zubir said Eddin Syazlee was not feeling well on Saturday but insisted on attending the event at Palm Mall in Seremban.

The Kuala Pilah MP had taken some medication prior to the event.

“Datuk Eddin Syazlee apologises for falling asleep at the event, ” she said yesterday.

In a viral video clip, which lasted a minute, Eddin Syazlee was seen falling asleep in a chair on stage during the school’s khatam al-Quran ceremony and huffaz graduation.

Despite efforts by others to wake him up, he did not get up immediately until a man, believed to be his bodyguard, came up on stage.

In November 2019, Eddin Syazlee fainted and collapsed in the Dewan Rakyat.

He had suffered breathing difficulties and chest pain and was later admitted to the National Heart Institution.

Farahiah added that at the event, Eddin Syazlee approved the installation of air-conditioners in the school hall and contributed some funds to help the school procure buses for their students.
