Real democracy requires unity, says Perikatan Youth info chief

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional Youth rejects political dominance as it will cause disunity and allow leaders to be corrupt, says Muhammad Hilman Idham (pic).

The Perikatan Youth info chief said that the party is committed to democracy by instilling good values in politics.

"Real democracy demands for political parties to strengthen unity and beef up the people's quality of life.

"We have seen instances where 'democracy' has ultimately become a platform for power struggle and protect the interest of the elites so much so that the people's well being has been ignored," he said in a statement Tuesday (April 6).

Perikatan Youth also urged Malaysians to strengthen unity, particularly while the country is facing Covid-19.

"Only through strong ties between political parties, can we ensure that the people's well being are looked after, protect our sovereignty and ensure the nation's prosperity," said Muhammad Hilman.

He also welcomed the PAS president's statement to remain together and give a new deal to Malaysians under Perikatan.

"At the same time, we also welcome the stance made by MIC and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in supporting the leadership of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin," he said.

"Indeed, the confidence of all three parties shows that political stability is the key to protecting the people’s interests and that national prosperity is in line with Perikatan aspirations," he said.

During the recently concluded Umno general assembly, the party had approved the motion for the party to sever ties with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) in the 15th General Election.

The assembly also approved a motion for Umno to remain in the Perikatan government until Parliament is dissolved.
