Fire destroys coils of cables at Bukit Mertajam construction site

BUKIT MERTAJAM: Around 10 coils of cables caught fire in the early hours of Wednesday (Feb 24) at construction site in Machang Bubok here.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department’s fire operations and safety officer Nafis Ariff Abdullah said they received a distress call at around 2.15am.

“When the Department's team arrived at the scene, an estimated 10 coils of cables were on fire at a new construction site. Extinguishing works were done and the fire was brought under control at 2.45am, ” he said.

Nafis added that the cables were estimated to be about 90% destroyed by the fire.

“No victims were involved and the fire did not involve the building's structure, ” he said in a statement.
