KITES are flying in the skies of Arau, Perlis, as villagers and children take advantage of the good weather and strong winds, Utusan Malaysia reported.

Padi fields are empty after the harvest and they have become the launchpad for kites.

Villager Norsham Khamis, 36, from Kampung Lama in Guar Sanji said this was the best season to fly kites.

“Sunny skies and a windy environment, especially in the evening, is like a ‘fest’ for villagers and their kids; it is the most awaited time of the year, ” he said.

Norsham added that kites could easily be bought from any store for under RM10, depending on the size and type.

Mohd Adha Nor Irwan, 12, said he would eagerly await the season every year and would grab the chance to fly kites with his family.

> Actor Syafie Naswip said he finally met his new “love” last month, Harian Metro reported.

The Mukhsin film star said he was now looking forward to his farming activities.

Cooking and vegetable farming became therapy for him throughout the movement control order.

“Since Jan 13 when the MCO was enforced, I quickly thought of potential activities to kill time and looking at the empty spaces in the house compound, I started to farm, ” he said.

In just one month, Syafie has successfully harvested chillies, ladies’ fingers, chives, tomatoes and water spinach.

“Acting is still my main source of income but I do not know when outdoor filming can restart following the MCO, ” he added.
