JOHOR BARU: Police are investigating a viral video of a man who had allegedly converted a Muslim woman out of Islam.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that the police checked on a house in Perjiranan Dato Onn here at about 9.50pm on Friday (Feb 19), after receiving information that a group of people were about to raid the house as they suspect the man was in it.
"We were able to control the situation. However, the man was not found in the house. Only his father and sister were in the house.
"We have also identified the man in the video who is about 29-years-old," he said in a statement here on Saturday (Feb 20).
He added that no arrest were made during the incident and no items were seized.
Comm Ayob said that the man had admitted to have converted the woman out of Islam in a three-minute video that went viral on social media.
"The video has been investigated by the Bukit Aman's Classified Criminal Investigation Department (USJT) when it went viral," he said.
He said that the case was investigated under Section 4(1) Sedition Act 1948, Section 298 and Section 505(c) of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act 1998.
He also urged the public to channel any information they have to the police instead of taking matter into their own hands, which may spark disharmony and harm public safety.
