PUTRAJAYA: Police arrested 950 people for breaching standard operating procedures (SOP), where high on the offence list of offences was failure to observe social distancing.
Police took action against 217 for this offence, followed by 209 individuals for crossing borders without permission, not putting on face masks at crowded public places (180), premises operating beyond permitted hours (41), activities at entertainment centres (39), leaving the house without valid reasons (30) and violation of quarantine (15).
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that of those arrested on Sunday (Feb 7), 838 individuals were compounded, 93 remanded and 19 individuals were released on bail.
The task force monitoring SOP compliance carried out 63,635 checks nationwide, including at supermarkets (3,901), restaurants (5,360), hawkers (2,442) and factories (1,506).
On Ops Benteng, Ismail Sabri said that 24 undocumented migrants were arrested and two boats were seized during operation on Feb 7.
“Authorities also detected 121 boats in Malaysian waters during sighting activities, ” he said on Monday (Feb 8).
On screenings of foreign workers, the Human Resources Ministry reported that 7,139 workers were tested for Covid-19 on Sunday and 66 were confirmed positive.
Cumulatively, since Dec 1 last year, 319,762 foreign workers were screened for the coronavirus.
Beginning Feb 1, the government has made it compulsory for employers nationwide to send their foreign workers for the Covid-19 tests.
Ismail Sabri said on Sunday, 532 individuals had returned to Malaysia and all were sent to observe quarantine at government designation stations.
Since July 24 last year, a total of 118,347 individuals had returned to Malaysia and were sent for quarantine in various locations.
