PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies (ROS) has rejected the application of youth movement Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) to be registered as a political party.

One of Muda’s co-founders, Luqman Long, confirmed that the ROS had sent them an email on Wednesday (Jan 6) about the rejection of its application.

“They did not state any grounds for rejection, ” he said.

In a statement issued not long after, Muda said that they were disappointed with the decision of the ROS decision and that they had given their full cooperation with them to comply with all the conditions for registration.

“There is no solid reason for the ROS to reject our application, ” said the group led by former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

" The freedom to establish a society and to take part in the democratic process is a basic right for every Malaysian as stated in the Constitution, ” they added.

Muda also said that they would be considering legal action moving forward.
