Covid-19: Eight new clusters detected, says Health DG

PETALING JAYA: Eight new Covid-19 clusters have been detected while five clusters have ended as of Wednesday (Dec 30), says the Health Ministry.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah (pic) said the new clusters are Tembok Choh, Tapak Bina Broga, Tapak Bina Jalan Stesen, Slot Berjaya, Jalan Nikolas, Gerbang Pongsu, Damai Ketari and Alor.

The Tembok Choh cluster, involving Johor Baru, Pontian, Kota Tinggi, Kulai and Mersing, recorded the highest number of new Covid-19 cases, where 382 out of 1,020 individuals screened from Dec 24 to 30 tested positive for the virus.

Tapak Bina Broga recorded a total of 67 positive cases, followed by Tapak Bina Jalan Stesen (54), Slot Berjaya (nine), Jalan Nikolas (six), Gerbang Pongsu (eight), Damai Ketari (21) and Alor (20).

This brings the total number of reported clusters to 506.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham in statement on Wednesday said the Tapak Bina Sungai Mulia, Assumption, Blok 31, Tanjung Bunga, and Jeri clusters have ended.

This brings the total number of active clusters being monitored to 223.
