Police sergeant claims trial to receiving RM3k bribe

KOTA KINABALU: A police sergeant was charged in the Sessions Court here on Wednesday (Dec 16) with receiving a RM3,000 bribe from a suspect involved in a theft case in February.

Nora Alun, 42, pleaded not guilty before Judge Abu Bakar Manat to two bribery-related charges under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

She is accused of having agreed to receive RM3,000 from Mohd Saiful Jamil as inducement not to continue investigations involving him in a theft case under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

Nora is also charged with receiving the money at the Kota Kinabalu District Criminal Investigations Department (CID) office on Feb 17.

She is accused of having committed the first charge at Restoran Taufik in Inanam near here.

If found guilty of the offences under Section 17(a) of the Act, Nora faces a maximum 20-year jail term or a fine of not less than five times the amount or RM10,000.

The MACC was represented by Clementine Severinus. while Nor was represented by Zahir Shah.

Nora was allowed bail of RM10,000 with one surety and has to report the SPRM office once two months, and her passport is to be surrendered to the court.

The court fixed Jan 19 for case management.
