BATU PAHAT: A 20-year-old woman who was hiking on Bukit Banang here has died after falling 80m into a gorge.
Batu Pahat Fire and Rescue Department station chief Mohd Fauzi Mohd Nor said that the victim was hiking with several others when the incident occurred.
He said that the department received an emergency call from one of the hikers at about 11.30am on Saturday (Nov 14).
"One Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and two Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) vehicles with sixteen personnel were deployed to the scene.
"Upon arriving, we found a woman who had fallen 80m into the gorge. We managed to bring her body up at about 3pm," he said in a statement.
He added that the woman was declared dead at the scene by a Health Department medical officer.
Her body has been handed over to the police for further action.
Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Azhan Abdul Halim confirmed the incident occurred and said the case was classified as sudden death.
