BUKIT MERTAJAM: A patient warded at KPJ Penang Specialist Hospital has tested positive for Covid-19.
In a notice to its patients and customers, the positive result was derived from a test conducted by the hospital on Oct 31.
"The said patient has been transferred to a public hospital, where she continues to receive care to date," the notice said.
The hospital added that eight frontliners working at the hospital have tested positive for Covid-19 as of Tuesday (Nov 3) and said that KPJ Penang continues to take every measure necessary to minimise exposure and reduce risk.
"Our aim is to sustainably maintain continuous high vigilance and strict adherence to standard operating procedures (SOP). This includes immediate contact tracing and thorough disinfecting and sanitising of all affected areas of the hospital, ” it said.
"PCR tests will also be offered to its inpatients, and all staff will also be undertaking the Covid-19 test," added the hospital.
It said that clinical services at KPJ Penang are not affected, and patients can continue with their existing care plans at the hospital within a safe environment.
In another development, an employee working at the Northam Tower building has been infected with Covid-19.
The tower management corporation said in a circular to the tower tenants that the management has ensured that it has taken immediate and necessary steps to address the issue at hand by disinfecting the possible contaminated areas.
The circular dated Nov 3 offered practical assistance to the occupants in the tower units as efforts to ensure minimal potential risks to other tenants or staff.
The management also seek tenants cooperation by adhering to the guidelines given by the government.
