Covid-19: Three new clusters identified, says Health DG

PUTRAJAYA: Three new clusters have been detected in the country, says the Health Ministry.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the Kapor cluster originated from Kudat, Sabah.

He said the cases from this cluster was detected through a community screening of residents at Kampung Tanjung Kapor, of which 46 positive cases tested positive for the virus on Oct 22.

"All the positive cases have been admitted to the Covid-19 quarantine and low-risk centre in Kota Belud, Sabah," he said during his daily press conference on Monday (Oct 26).

As of noon on Oct 26, Dr Noor Hisham said 127 individuals had been screened and 81 others were waiting for their results.

Dr Noor Hisham said a new cluster was detected in Rembau, Negri Sembilan, known as the Hampar cluster.

"This new cluster was detected in Rembau, Negri Sembilan. The index case in this cluster was identified through a testing of an individual who was symptomatic on Oct 21 and has been admitted to the Rembau Hospital," he said.

He said 578 individuals were tested from this cluster, of which five tested positive, 96 tested negative, and 477 others still waiting for their results.

Meanwhile, in the Tapah Prison cluster, Dr Noor Hisham said it was detected in Batang Padang, Perak, where 11 tested positive from a Covid-19 screening conducted at the prison on Oct 12.

"All the individuals are being treated at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh Hospital and Teluk Intan Hospital," he said, adding that close contact screening has also detected four positive cases.

As of Oct 26, Dr Noor Hisham said 2,268 individuals were tested, with 1,820 tested negative and 437 others still waiting for their results.
