MCA Youth slams Pakatan's failure in handling Selangor's nonstop water woes

Ryan Ho Kwok Xheng

PETALING JAYA: The Selangor government has failed to implement any emergency response measures despite years of water disruption in the state, says MCA Youth.

MCA Youth spokesperson Ryan Ho Kwok Xheng claimed that the state's assemblymen and town councillors do not seem to care or want to solve the problem.

"The residents of Selangor are so used to this happening, for 12 long years since Pakatan (Harapan) took over Selangor, time and time again the residents of Selangor suffer countless large and small scale water disruptions.

"What is more ridiculous is that for many years, the Selangor Pakatan state government and Air Selangor have not planned or implemented any emergency response measures. It makes us wonder what do they discuss during exco meetings - approvals of new projects perhaps?" he said in a statement on Tuesday (Oct 20).

On Monday (Oct 19), contamination in Sungai Selangor caused yet another unscheduled water cut in Selangor.

Ho said the lackadaisical attitude of the state assemblymen was appalling, adding that "they just could not be bothered" as there seems to not be any implementation of countermeasures to solve the problem.

He added that this was despite the reasons cited in the past for water rationing and unscheduled water cuts were prolonged hot spells, contamination from factory operators dumping waste into rivers, burst pipes and machine failures, among others.

"The continuous unscheduled water disruptions have triggered public resentment to flood the website and social media accounts of Air Selangor, with many voicing their frustration and requesting the water authorities and the Selangor state government to explain or make a public statement. But as usual, it fell on deaf ears. No action will be taken by the Pakatan government," he said.

Ho claimed that similar incidents will occur in the future as long as Pakatan was still in charge of the state government, noting that in the past week, water supply was disrupted four times on Oct 13,16,17, and 19.

"Water supply and access to water supply are basic needs of the people. If the Selangor Pakatan state government is unable to handle even the basic most basic needs of the rakyat, this proves they are incapable, powerless and useless. Come GE15, it is time to remove Pakatan from Selangor," he said.
