Food supply sufficient, no need for panic buying, says Ismail Sabri

PUTRAJAYA: The government has assured the public, especially those affected by the conditional movement order (MCO), that there is sufficient food supply that is easily available.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said neither the agriculture and food sectors, nor the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry expected any shortage.

This, he said, included factories, wholesalers and retailers operating in areas under conditional MCO.

“We would like to assure the public that we have enough food supply, and it is easily available to the consumers.

“There is no need for panic buying even in conditional MCO areas,” he said on Thursday (Oct 15).

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affair Minister on Wednesday (Oct 14) monitored 12 types of goods on 728 premises, including retailers, wholesalers as well as manufacturers.

Ismail said what was important was for the public to practise self-discipline and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), such as maintaining self-cleanliness and social distancing while out shopping for essential goods.
